Dr. Bocharova from Russia Fareast Federal University visited CSSRC
On Aug 22-23, Dr. Bocharova from Russian Fareast Federal University, and Dr. Vaganov-Vilkins from Chemistry Institute of Russia Science Academy Fareast branch, came to CSSRC as invited to communicate on the topic of glass-metal composite.
Glass-metal composite is a new kind of glass-based composite material covered by metal layers inside and outside. This composite can significantly reduce deepwater submersible pressure shell’s weight/displacement ratio, and its cost is relatively low. In recent years, thanks to Russian Federal Government and some enterprises’ support, Fareast Federal University, cooperating with Chemistry Institute of Russian Science Academy and other institutes, has conducted large amount of theoretical and experimental researches on it. They worked out a set of applicable manufacturing techniques, developed glass-metal composite pressure shell prototype and completed experimental verifications in the pressure tank.
During the talk, both sides discussed the topics regarding glass-metal composite’s mechanical properties, pressure shell’s manufacturing techniques, design and computation methods, pressure tank experiments and non-destructive detection, etc. CSSRC Vice Director Yan Kai, Academician Xu Qinan, Vice Chief Engineer Wan Zhengquan, and some other experts attended the meeting. A meeting minutes was agreed after the meeting in which both sides agreed to further communications and cooperations in the area of glass-metal composite’s manufacturing and its applications to underwater vehicles, as well as non-destructive detection to glass-metal composite’ s pressure shell. In this way, CSSRC can hopefully benefit from more international joint projects’ support.
