Introduction

China Ship Scientific Research Center is located in Wuxi, a beautiful Taihu lakeside city. Fronting water and with a hill at the back, it stretches for several miles. Boasting large scale and complete facilities, it is among the top in the Far East and in the world. CSSRC was founded in 1951 by Huangpu River in Shanghai. The headquarters was relocated to Wuxi in 1965, with branches set in Shanghai and Qingdao. CSSRC has more than 30 large and medium-sized test facilities with complete functions and support for ship and marine engineering R & D, three national key laboratories, two national testing centers, one national energy and marine engineering equipment research and development center, and Taihu Laboratory of Deep-sea Technology and Science. The overall scale ranks the top three in the world and the first in Asia. CSSRC have more than 1,800 employees and a team of high-level talents in scientific research, management and skills led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and national experts with outstanding contributions.

Since the establishment, CSSRC has adhered to the spirit of "United, Diligent, Innovative and Devoted" and has made significant contributions to the continuous development of China's ship and marine engineering industry. Since 1978, CSSRC has won more than 600 scientific and technological achievement awards at national level and other levels, and has been continuously awarded the title of "Civilized Unit in Jiangsu Province" since 1997.

CSSRC mainly engage in the basic research for application of hydrodynamics, structural mechanics, vibration, noise, shock and explosion resistance and other relevant technical directions in the field of ship and marine engineering, as well as research, design and development of innovative equipment such as high-performance ships and underwater vehicles. In the past 20 years, we have made breakthroughs in key test evaluation and design optimization technologies concerning the overall performance guarantee of ships, which provides strong support for the research and development of new ships in China. At the same time, we have carried out in-depth research on core technologies in the field of deep-sea equipment technology, and have obtained a large number of major scientific and technological achievements represented by Jiaolong HOV, Deep-sea Warrior HOV and Fendouzhe Full Ocean Depth HOV, leading the leap-forward development of deep-sea science and technology in China. We have also successfully developed a series of products, such as WIG craft, small waterplane area twin-hull ship, hydrofoil craft, submarine rescue equipment, full-rotary Z-type propulsion unit, high-speed yacht, water recreation facility, environment-friendly insulated cotton production line, water environment treatment equipment represented by cyanobacteria cleaning ship and ecological dredging vessel, as well as special software such as SHIDS ship performance design system. Many scientific research achievements have been transformed into products or applied to ship design, construction and compilation of standards and specifications, making important contributions to the development of ship and marine engineering and local economy in China.

CSSRC is an important member of two international academic organizations in the shipbuilding industry, i.e., International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC) and International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress (ISSC). Many young and middle-aged experts from CSSRC have been elected as members of the relevant technical committees of these two international organizations. In addition, CSSRC has established close academic exchange and technical cooperation relations with nearly 100 colleges and universities, research institutes and academic groups in the United States, Britain, France, Russia, Japan, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway. CSSRC is one of the first batch of doctoral and master's training units in China, with two first-class doctoral programs, three first-class master programs and one postdoctoral research center. Over the years, more than 400 doctors and masters have been enrolled.

China is moving towards a world shipbuilding power. China Ship Scientific Research Center will strive to meet the needs of national economic growth and shipbuilding development, further strengthen applied basic research, continuously develop innovative technologies and products, forge new economic growth points, and make further contributions to China's shipbuilding industry and economic growth.
