Name: Yousheng Wu 
Position:  Academician of China Engineering Academy, Honorary Director, Doctoral Supervisor

Yousheng Wu, born in 1942, is a native of Shengxian County, Zhejiang Province, and a member of the CPC. Mr. Wu is an academician of the first batch of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in hydroelasticity and ship mechanics, honorary director of China Ship Scientific Research Center, and was director of CSSRC. Mr. Wu graduated from the Department of Modern Mechanics of the University of Science and Technology of China in 1964, and received a Master's Degree from the Department of Engineering Mechanics of Tsinghua University in 1967, and Doctor's Degree from Brunel University, London, UK in 1984.

Mr. Wu has long been devoted to research in the interdiscipline of ship hydrodynamics and structural mechanics, dedicated to the research on China’s Development Strategy for Marine Transportation Engineering and Industrial Development Strategy, and has contributed to the development of theory, testing and application technology for ship structure and equipment resisting underwater explosions and air nuclear explosion, which solved the important technical issues of nuclear hardening for ships and battle effectiveness prediction. Mr. Wu served as the chief designer, presided over and engaged in the research and design of new high-performance ships and deep-sea equipment, and developed the first kiloton marine research ship of semi-submerged catamaran in China. He also proposed, promoted or presided over the technical research and engineering development of deep-sea manned submersible, deep-sea space station and ultra-large floating structure.

Yousheng Wu has won many national, provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress, published more than 270 academic papers at home and abroad, authored 5 books, and trained more than 40 graduate students. Mr. Wu has also been awarded special government allowance of the State Council, first prize by Guanghua Science and Technology Foundation and titled as the national outstanding contribution of young and middle-aged expert, national outstanding returnee, provincial and municipal advanced worker, excellent party member of provincial and municipal governments and China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, model worker of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, etc. Mr. Wu has served as a member of the Standing Committee, Secretary General, and Chairman of several domestic and international academic organizations, and was a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a deputy to the National People's Congress.

 

Name: Qinan Xu 
Position: Academician of China Engineering Academy 
Title: Researcher

Qinan Xu, born in 1936, is a native of Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, and a member of the CPC. He is a famous expert in the field of high technology of deep-sea submersible in China. Mr. Xu graduated from the Department of Shipbuilding (predecessor of School of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Civil Engineering) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1958 and was the deputy chief engineer of China Ship Scientific Research Center.

Mr. Xu has been engaged in the development of deep-sea submersible for a long time, and is a representative person who has followed and caught up with the process of international advanced level in this field. He was the chief designer of five underwater submersibles and creatively developed several types of deep-sea manned submersibles and underwater robots, with working depths evolving from 300m, 600m and 1000m to 6000m and 7000m. There are four types: manned, unmanned, tethered and untethered, and three control modes: manned manual control, tethered remote control and untethered intelligent control. Since 2002, Mr. Xu has been the chief designer of the "Jiaolong" submersible, a 7000m deep-sea manned submersible designed and developed independently by China. Mr. Xu has received more than ten awards, including 2 first prizes and 1 second prize of National Science and Technology Progress, the grand prize and first prize of Science and Technology Progress of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress, the first and second prizes of Science and Technology Progress of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the prize for Science and Technology Progress Award by Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation. In addition, he has won many honored titles such as Model Worker in Jiangsu Province and Wuxi City, Advanced Individual in "863" Plan, Shanghai Science and Technology Meritorious Worker and 2012 Top Ten National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, and awarded National May Day Labor Medal, Lifetime Dedication to Ocean Memorial Medal, etc.
