Society of Underwater Technology Technical Conference 2013 (SUTTC2013), jointly organized by China Ship Scientific Research Center and SUT China had been successfully held from Sept. 3 to Sept 5, 2013 at Shanghai International Exhibition Center. Prof. Zhenping Weng, chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, extended a warm welcome to all the participants at the opening ceremony. Present at the conference were Academician Yousheng Wu, chairman of the Technical Committee. Many engineers from various departments of CSSRC also attended the conference.
SUT is a multidisciplinary society founded in 1966 with its head office in London and has members from around 40 countries. Founded on Dec. 9, 2010, SUT China, attached to China University of Petroleum (Beijing), is one of the comparatively young members. SUT considers all aspects of technology applied to diving and manned submersibles, environmental forces, marine policy, marine renewable energies, ocean resources, offshore site investigation and geotechnics, salvage and decommissioning, subsea engineering and operations, underwater robotics, underwater science and underwater vehicles. These years, China has made great progress in underwater technology and made marvelous achievements. The convention of this conference has fully displayed the achievements and development prospects of China in underwater technology.
Eight world-known experts invited from China, USA, UK, Singapore made wonderful keynote speeches at the plenary sessions. Academician Yousheng Wu from CSSRC made a keynote speech entitled “The deep-sea vehicle of the New Century”. During the conference, Prof. Qinan Xu, was specially interviewed by many plane media journalists. Outstanding papers presented at the conferences have been published in the SUT conference proceedings. Dr. Jim Neffgen invited from SUT headquarters made a one-day technical training on “Introduction to Subsea Production Systems for Deepwater Applications”to the related personnel from home and abroad.
SUTTC2013 was held in parallel with Oceanology International China and shared the plenary sessions, which has greatly increased the influence of SUTTC and established a good foundation for the future development of SUT China.
