“Proposed acquisition method of the wind propulsion system force matrix based on wind tunnel model test” compiled by China Scientific Research Center, was formally written into the newly implemented MEPC.1/Circ.896 circular at the MEPC77 meeting closed on November 26, 2021.

CSSRC continues to track the latest developments in international regulatory research, based on years of research accumulation, the “Proposed acquisition method of the wind propulsion system force matrix based on wind tunnel model test”, has the advantages of simplicity and reliability, which is conducive to practical engineering applications, and has been adopted as a formal proposal by MEPC74 of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) (No. MEPC 74/5/30).

The main content of the proposal includes the principle and method of wind tunnel model test, test scheme, data processing and wind matrix calculation process, etc., and an example of wind matrix calculation of VLCC sailboat is attached.

Since its release, the proposal has been cited many times by related proposals in Japan and Germany, and has been officially written into the newly implemented MEPC.1/Circ.896 circular (section 2.4 and Annex 1) at the MEPC77 meeting. It further promotes the international standardization process of the EEDI/EEXI calculation method of sailboats.
