Recently, CSIC (China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation) Shanghai Marine Energy Saving Technology Development Co., Ltd (CMES-Tech), a subsidiary company of China Ship Scientific Research Center has successfully completed the installation of energy-saving devices on a 400,000-ton super-large ore carrier VLOC in Shenzhen Youlian Shipyard.

This type of VLOC is about ten years old and it cannot meet the requirements of EEXI regulations. In order to obtain a better energy efficiency, CMES-Tech has customized system energy-saving solutions such as pre-shrouded vanes and hub votex absorbed fans, and applied technologies such as lightweight design, asymmetric configuration, and block processing. Compared with the model test in the tank and the cavitation tunnel, the predicted energy saving effect of the ship finally reaches more than 7%, which significantly improves the energy efficiency level and market competitiveness of this type of ship.
